Leaders Read and Readers Lead
It is evident from my work with leaders in various countries that reading is an important part of their leading. They are avid readers. Whether it is the newspaper, the internet, the latest company report, the recently released book or specialist magazine, leaders read habitually. They are like sponges that soak up the latest information and stay ahead of the people they lead through the information they learn. Conversation amongst leaders often turns to what they are reading. Their latest revelation often keeps conversation relevant, interesting and informative. Authors such as Covey, Kiyosaki, Welch, Maxwell and Gladwell are discussed as readily as the latest newspaper articles.
Reading is a map to the journey of leading.
Epictetus said “The man who doesn’t read has no advantage over the man who can’t.”
So what are you reading?
How are those sources developing you?
Are they making you a better person and leader?
