January! Symbolic of beginnings, optimistic plans and another chance to manifest our dreams. We open to a fresh calendar year, hoping to fill each day with new lessons, adventures and accomplishments.
“Out with the old and in with the new” is easier said than done. It takes energy, initiative and planning. Life does not magically change just by wishing it so - it is up to you to make the effort. Fortunately, we have much opportunity for renewing ourselves, our lives and our future dreams beginning now. This first month of 2012 brings the chance to not only make a clean break from the past but to re-invent ourselves going forward!
How will January's Astrological energies assist us in making the most of this month and a fresh start to 2012? Read on:
LOVE & RELATIONSHIPS: The ebb and flow of life dictates that at times we grow apart and then need to reconnect. Renew your feelings about those you love by seeing them with new eyes. Reflect on the attributes that brought you together in the first place. Vow to contribute something every day to bring good feelings to your relationship. Complimenting, appreciating, showing tenderness, and praising contributions will help you not take each other for granted. Develop a shared vision – as your relationships evolve so do your plans, so discuss and negotiate what you both want to manifest this new year. Talk without judgment, learn to compromise, let the small stuff slide, say you're sorry, stop the blame game, and be grateful for those you keep company with!
* The Cancer Full Moon on the 9th helps us to renew our connections with those we love in deeper and more meaningful ways. This is a great time to review what mutual dreams can be worked toward in the new year.
* Venus in Pisces in the second half of January brings greater romance, creativity, and sensitivity to ourselves and our relationships. This marks a new period of empathy and intuitive connection with those we love.
* The first New Moon of the year arrives on the 23rd in Aquarius, encouraging us to grow and enrich ourselves individually, contributing more to partnerships by developing our independent interests and friends.
WORK: This is the year to reinvent your self, your job and how you work. Make a list of what is effective and what is not. List the resources you have (your skills, experience, knowledge, background along with the individuals you know), and take stock of your abilities. If you don't know what you have you can't effectively use it! Out of work? Consider more creative ways to emphasize your aptitudes – rework resumes, rewrite applications, apply for situations not considered before and ask for referrals, recommendations, and introductions for job possibilities. Use search engines to research further information about prospective employers to pin-point how to best market yourself to them. Think about what skills you need to apply for the positions you want. If you are employed ask yourself if you like what you are doing and if it makes the best use of your talents.
* Mercury's movement into ambitious Capricorn on the 8th brings extra thought and effort to our work. This is a great time to take stock of our abilities and be better organized for our work goals. Mars in compatible Virgo this month helps us be more detailed and precise in our actions and more purposeful in our plans.
FINANCES: Review the way you think about saving. Choosing to save almost always means opting for delayed gratification instead of immediate satisfaction, but it has its rewards! The next time you are tempted to buy something, ask yourself “why”? Rethink the concept of spending by building an emotional environment that encourages you to save for tomorrow. Pinpoint what you want to save for in the future and make that your focus. A vacation, a car, a new home? Concentrate on this as the prize for your hard work, give it a name, give it a date to be achieved and start planning for it! By redirecting your spending now you have greater opportunities to realize a financial dream by the end of this year! Put something away each week, starting this month!
*Jupiter moving forward in Taurus this month assists us in finding greater growth when it comes to our savings. Mars and Pluto in complimentary earth-bound signs gives us the confidence and energy to achieve more of the dreams we are saving for!
HOME & FAMILY: Rework communication strategies. It is easy for caregivers to take on the role of lecturer and authority, but it often makes the young ones feel talked at rather than listened to. Allow every family member to have their say. This will bring balance to communications between a parent and child and enhance mutual understanding. Open ended questions like “tell me about your day!” rather than “how was your day?” increase dialogue. Encourage the expression of feelings and the sharing of opinions. Speaking in calm, reassuring voices, without judgment, accusations, or nagging helps establishes greater trust, honesty and secure feelings for all concerned.
*The Cancer Full Moon on the 9th is an especially good day for gathering together over a meal and discussing the dreams, goals and plans for home and family in 2012. The New Moon on the 23rd brings new discussions and innovative plans for domestic progress.
HEALTH: Everybody has new year resolutions regarding their health and diet, but to accomplish these you first need to review the emotional before you correct the physical. Letting go of the bad habits like eating in response to stress, upset, sadness or boredom rather than actual hunger is key. Are you taking your stress out on a chocolate bar rather than on something constructive? Reclassify cravings! Being mindful of when you eat as well as what you eat will help bring your diet and health into balance this year! That said, it is important to exercise, consume whole and nutritious foods, limit alcohol, avoid fats and white sugar, drink lots of water, get sufficient rest, and find time to play every day!
*Mars in Virgo this month helps keep us on track with our diets and is great for focusing on new health regimes! As it turns retrograde on the 24th, we will have greater opportunity for more internal refection. Mercury joining the Sun in Capricorn after the 8th gives us renewed discipline, determination and ambition to reach our goals for better well-being!
SELF: Redefining you! If you were to FULLY live your life, what is the first change you would start to make?
