Hi my name is Ben Warren - Founder of the BePure Health Revolution, I've helped over a thousand people get healthy through changes in diet and lifestyle  and I'm putting together a petition to stop the introduction of a new Parlimentary Act which will set the scene for increased regulation of health giving foods and nutrients and potentially take them out of the hands of the people, placing them in the hands of the Pharmaceutical companies.

The New Zealand version of the Australian Therapeutic Goods Act (TGA) was successfully defeated a couple of years ago.  However, National are trying to sneak a watered down version through government.  The plans of the TGA was to bring New Zealand into alignment with Australia's regulations on foods and supplements that have a therapeutic effect (beneficial effect).

The government is currently asking for submissions on a new Act for this purpose, currently these foods and nutrients fall under the Food Act 1981 with the dietary supplement regulations 1985.  I am collecting petitions to submit before the 17th May that the current legislation is adequate and remain unchanged, I would like to secure the consumers right to continue to be given the choice regarding what nutritional choices they make.

I cannot emphasise enough the implications of the proposed changes.  For example, I have recently heard from my colleagues in Australia that Red Yeast Rice can no longer be sold for the management of cholesterol, because it has been shown to be effective at reducing LDL (bad cholesterol) and raising HDL (good cholesterol) - which pretty much most people agree is a good thing....it is now under the control of the pharmaceutical companies in Australia. 

So, in Australia you can't buy it for naturally improving your cholesterol levels.  There has been talk that even Vitamin C might become a prescription only medicine, this is crazy, they are natural substances found in food that happen to be more beneficial to health than prescription drugs, need I say more...
